The included U.S. and Canadian street maps can show your own data, as well as import text files from Excel and other databases, from which you can select only the ones that you want to display on the maps. As a bonus feature, you can search 150 million business and residential phone and address listings, and create your own custom databases to bring on PDAs and laptop PCs for GPS usage in the field.

The Earthmate GPS BT-20 includes dual bluetooth wireless and USB connectivity. The device outputs standard NMEA-0183 data stream, and provides fast satellite acquisition times.

To get started, load the Street Atlas USA 2009 Plus DVD mapping software on a desktop and/or laptop PC. Charge the BT-20 receiver using the included AC or 12-volt Lithium-Ion battery charger. Then you can begin using your bluetooth-enabled laptop PC as an ideal large-screen navigation display capable of announcing street names and detailed upcoming turns.

Or, you can use the Street Atlas USA 2009 software's handheld exchange function to create, save, and synch exactly the maps and routes you want to your bluetooth-capable PDA or Smart Phone. Because all DeLorme map data is created, updated annually, and owned by DeLorme, many features can be provided that are typically reserved for expensive in-vehicle navigation systems. The Street Atlas USA 2009 Plus software settings let you choose the magnification level to display the various POIs to avoid cluttering your map views. The POIs can be accessed using the many Find capabilities or by right-clicking on the map and selecting places based on type and distance from the map center.

Find gas stations, hotels, shopping, and much more in your direction of travel and then easily make detours to these desired stops along the way.

Using the Earthmate GPS BT-20, it’s possible to have the Street Atlas USA 2009 Plus software offer new spoken and visual directions when you stray off course. You can select or type the off-route distances you want to travel before the automatic re-calculations kick in. Select short distances for city travel and longer ones for highway travel where you may exit frequently for roadside travel services.

The Street Atlas USA 2009 Plus software can offer voice directions indicating upcoming turns and street names. It also can be set up to respond to your voice and answer common travel questions - a very powerful capability for mapping software within this price category.
