National Geographic Maps has teamed up with Magellan to bring you the first handheld GPS for the outdoor marked that can display the National Geographic TOPO! maps. The new Magellan Triton series of rugged outdoor GPS devices is compatible with both TOPO! State series and the Weekend Explorer 3D series (PC only).

There are six models in the Triton series, ranging in MSRP from $179.99 to $599.99. They are totally redesigned inside and out, with a rugged feel for the outdoor enthusiast, and are amazingly easy-to-use. Features vary from model to model, but include:

• First handheld touch-screen interface available
• Intuitive interface
• Rugged and waterproof design, built with the outdoor user in mind
• Integrated, low-power, high-sensitivity antenna
• 2.7"/2.2" (depending on model) QVGA full-color display screen
• Additional features are available on some models: SD card slot, 2 megapixel camera, multimedia player, built-in LED flashlight, electronic compass and barometer.

The Magellan Triton GPS devices work with either the TOPO! State series products or the Weekend Explorer 3D. The two products are very similar, with the only difference being coverage area. Features of TOPO! include:

• 1:24,000 scale (7.5') USGS maps
• Elevation profiling
• Insert GPS waypoints, routes, and tracks
• Live map updates
• 3-D views and fly-throughs
• Waypoint manager with unlimited storage.

Select the area in any TOPO! State product or any Weekend Explorer 3D product that you want to transfer. You can transfer either 1:100,000 or 1:24,000 scale maps from TOPO!, along with routes and waypoints. Select in the Export Wizard to export to the Triton. Maps are then viewable in color and at multiple zoom levels on the Triton units. Storage capacity for exported maps varies based on Triton model and size of the SD card used. Magellan Triton compatibility requires a PC installation of TOPO! software and maps.
